Day 1 UK to Boston

After taking your included VIP door-to-door travel service to the airport, fly to Boston. One of the oldest cities in the US, Boston was founded on the Shawmut Peninsula by English settlers in 1630, and was the setting for several of the crucial events which led to the American Revolution, including the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party.

Stay two nights at the 3-star DoubleTree by Hilton Boston Bayside (3Q) in Boston.

Day 2 Boston

Embark on a morning city tour following the path of Boston’s Freedom Trail. The trail winds its way through the city linking 16 historically significant sites together, including Old North Church, Quincy Market, State Capitol and Boston Harbor, telling a story of revolution and transformation. Explore the streets of 17th-century Boston on a visit to the historic North End district – both the city's oldest house and its oldest church can be found here and enjoy some free time at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace with its colourful stands, street performers and tempting food.

After free time for lunch, join a student-led walking tour of Harvard University, and then why not join an optional visit to the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, home to an exceptional collection of human cultural history. Another optional excursion this evening offers the chance to cruise Boston Harbor. Enjoy a welcome dinner this evening.

Day 3 Boston to Plymouth

Enjoy a leisurely start to the day, or visit the Fruitlands Museum, one of America’s first outdoor museums. Depart for Plymouth (40 miles, 45 minutes), where pilgrims from the Mayflower founded the first colony in 1620. Here you’ll visit the Plimoth Plantation – a living museum that brings the history of America’s early settlers to life.

Spend the next two nights at the 3-star John Carver Inn (3Q).

Day 4 Plymouth

See some of the oldest villages in America, charming fishing ports, and the deserted sand dunes of Cape Cod on an included full-day scenic drive which includes a stop in pretty Provincetown. Boasting a plethora of galleries, craft shops and cute cafes, you can happily while away an afternoon here.

Next, hit the waters surrounding Plymouth to try and spot the humpback, minke and pilot whales who migrate here on an included whale watching excursion.

Day 5 Plymouth to Killington

Journey to Killington today (287 miles, six hours). Cross the state border into Rhode Island this morning. Cross the state border into Rhode Island this morning to visit Newport, revered for its exclusivity at the turn of the 20th century. This ‘Gilded Age’ was a period of prosperity and elegance, when magnificent summer palaces of the rich and powerful began peppering the rugged coast and lush countryside. Spend time on the historic waterfront, in the Antiques District, or join an optional excursion to The Breakers, a summer “cottage" of the Vanderbilt family, or set sail on a schooner to see Newport from the water.

Continue north to Saxon’s Distillery in Vermont for a tour and tasting session. This award-winning distillery hand crafts spirits using locally sourced maple syrup. Spend the next two nights at the 3-star Killington Mountain Lodge (3Q) in Killington, a winter sports resort in Vermont’s Green Mountains.

Day 6 Killington

Admire the autumn colours on a morning visit to the historic alpine village of Stowe, a year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts, and the perfect place to watch the leaves change colour in the fall. Travel past the Green Mountains to charming Montpelier, the smallest state capital in America. Here you’ll tour Morse Maple Sugar Farm to see how maple syrup is made, and visit the state's capital building.

Day 7 Killington to North Conway

This morning, cross from the Green Mountains to the White Mountains as you head into New Hampshire (158 miles, three hours). Travel along the dramatic Franconia Notch mountain pass before entering the scenic byway known locally as "The Kanc", both of which boast incredible fall foliage. We’ll pause for photo opportunities en route.

Arrive in North Conway where you stay for three nights at the 3-star Red Jacket Mountain View Resort (3Q+), set on the edge of the White Mountain National Forest.

Day 8 North Conway

Today’s excursion takes you into to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where, at this time of year, blazing red, burnt orange and vibrant yellow autumn foliage stretches out in every direction. You'll pass by the tallest peak in the north-east, Mount Washington, as you journey through Crawford Notch State Park and stop off at Silver Cascade waterfall, which twists, turns and cascades 4,000 feet down the side of Mount Jackson.

Day 9 North Conway

Today you’ll have the chance to join optional excursions to Flume Gorge and Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway, riding to the top of Cannon Mountain. Alternatively, spend the day at leisure. A farewell dinner is included this evening.

Day 10 North Conway to Boston to UK

Cross the state border into Maine this morning, taking in the vast forests, pretty seaside villages and cliff-lined shores en route to Kennebunkport (70 miles, two hours). This wealthy coastal town is known for its long, sandy beaches making a popular vacation destination for Americans, including George HW Bush who had a summer retreat along the affluent Ocean Avenue.

After a tour and free time to explore, continue to Boston airport for your return overnight flight home.
